A donation of 1,000 turkeys for Thanksgiving

The CMA CGM Group, a global player in sea, land, air and logistics solutions, provided 1,000 turkeys along with sustainable shopping bags for families in Montréal last week as part of their Thanksgiving “Feeding Montréal” initiative.

1,000 turkeys donated to provide holiday food assistance for Montréal families

Turkey distribution began at noon at the Sun Youth administrative center near the MIL campus of Université de Montréal. Both on-foot and drive-through pickups were available for families in need of food assistance. The 5- to 7-kilogram turkeys donated by the CMA CGM Group will feed approximately 10,000 Canadians this Thanksgiving*.

In addition to the turkeys, families received sustainable shopping totes in support of Canada’s recent ban on several categories of single-use plastics. In June, the CMA CGM Group also took bold steps in this area with its industry-leading decision to no longer transport plastic waste on its ships.

Strategic partnerships designed to ensure successful outreach

In order to identify Canadians in need of assistance, the CMA CGM Group partnered with Sun Youth, an organization well known for its food bank, Christmas baskets, and urban agriculture programs, which feed thousands of people annually in the Montréal community. Adform Creative, a branded merchandise agency, partnered with CMA CGM to produce and purchase the sustainable shopping bags, and both Group subsidiary CEVA Logistics and CMA CGM Canada team members assisted with logistics.

Supporting agriculture and sustainable business practices

As one of North America’s largest agriculture export carriers and an advocate of sustainable business practices, CMA CGM is donating turkeys and reusable bags as a gesture of support for the poultry industry and farmers who make the Thanksgiving holiday possible for families in both Canada and the U.S.

In addition to its Montréal initiative, the Group also plans to provide turkeys for U.S. troops, their families, and thousands of Americans across the United States as part of their third annual “Giving Across America” program in November for the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday. This new initiative in Canada reflects the CMA CGM Group’s ambition to find BETTER WAYS to build a more efficient, resilient and sustainable global trade.

Thiago Campos, General Manager of CMA CGM Canada, stated, “The CMA CGM Group believes in Acting for People and is committed to finding BETTER WAYS to serve our communities. We thank our partners who have helped make this happen, and we are honored to assist fellow Canadians who need support by providing a healthy Thanksgiving staple to Montreal families.”

Eric Kingsley, Director of Emergency Services at Sun Youth Organization, stated “We truly thank CMA CGM for helping feed our community today. Thanksgiving is a great reminder to all of us that it is important to provide for our neighbors in need, and their ‘Feeding Montréal’ holiday initiative was a great way to do just that.”
