More than $110,000 raised for Sun Youth!

The 19th annual Sun Youth Mordy Gordon Memorial Golf Tournament and 6th annual Cyclothon, held on August 15th at Elmridge Country Club, raised more than $110,000 in support of youth sports and recreation!  The participation of over 250 golfers and cyclists and the support of our generous sponsors and donors ensures that hundreds of children and youth will have the opportunity to participate in athletics, arts, and after-school programs – kids who might otherwise not have had the chance.

Thanks to the generosity of all those in attendance and to the support of donors and volunteers past and present, Sun Youth has raised more than $1,200,000 in the last 19 years. Special thanks go to our main sponsors Des Sources Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM Fiat and Falkbuilt Greater Montreal for renewing their support, as well as the tournament’s major sponsors Fabricland Distributors Inc., Pipe & Piling Supplies Ltd., National Bank of Canada, The Gustav Levinschi Foundation. Welcome to our new sponsors, Fuze Logistics Services and Winmar Rive-Sud.

Cyclists had the choice of two routes (Ile Bizard or the West Island) and enjoyed an escort from the SPVM motorcycle squad. Cycling teams from Falkbuilt Greater Montreal, Solertia Groupe Conseil, National Bank of Canada, Salesforce Mulesoft, the SPVM and Team Toeman were able to relax by the pool while golfers finished their 18-hole golf round.  At the end of the beautiful (and very hot) sunny day, all guests regrouped at the clubhouse for a delicious cocktail dinner and open bar.

Master of Ceremonies (and golfer) Joey Elias also took on auctioneer duties for our live auction featuring a Montreal Canadiens game in a Loge graciously offered by the Montreal Gazette and tickets to see a New York Jets NFL football game.  Popular online auction items included  an electrical bicycle from iGO Electric, an autographed jersey from Florida Panthers Anthony Duclair, Serengeti and Bolle sunglasses from Centennial Optical, BMW watches from BMW Laval and an authentic LA Rams helmet from Riddell, paintings from Mrs. Phyllis Leibov, tickets to the Segal Centre, the Théâtre du Nouveau Monde, the Montreal Canadiens and the Alouettes, gift certificates from Fairmont Queen Elizabeth, VIA Rail, Steve’s Music Store, for the SAQ from Dynamic, P.A. Supermarché, Play it again Sports, Klar Vision and Pierrefonds Sportsplexe. Food lovers were in luck with gift certificates from Ferreira Café, Douro, Aldea, Milos, Portovino, Casa Grecque, Le Serpent, Le Filet, Le Chasse et Pêche, and many more.

The evening was also filled with emotion as we paid tribute to the late President of Sun Youth’s Board of Directors, Bob Mironowicz, who passed away on January 7th. In his honor, a plaque was presented to his widow Jennifer and his sons Tim and Scott.

Our sincere thanks to the volunteers on the organizing committee (Marvin Pascal, Jamie Ross, Dimitrios Manolopoulos, Andrew Toeman), our sponsors, all golfers, cyclists and volunteers on the day of (special thanks to Phyllis Leibov & friends) and special guests Meeker Guerrier and Jay Farrar for their enthusiasm and generosity. We would also like to thank the Elmridge Country Club for their warm welcome and special attention, gift sponsors Stokes and Canus, food sponsors Boulangerie Marguerita, Noble Foods inc. and A Mara and Bicycles MCW for the bike tune-ups. Special thanks to Montreal comedian Joey Elias for hosting the evening. We hope to see everyone back next year for the 20th anniversary of Sun Youth’s Mordy Gordon Memorial Golf Tournament and Cyclothon!
