The vehicle allows for a supervisor to travel between neighborhoods and to coordinate events like project numero which was created to combat bike theft across the city by engraving them with a unique serial number registered with the SPVM. The 28 patrollers are deployed on bike paths and on the streets five days a week from 10 am to 6 pm to check parks, playgrounds, swimming pools, malls, subway stations and other places where there are children and elderly people (schools, day camps, senior residences), helping where needed, giving prevention tips and reporting violations. Patrollers are equipped with mountain bikes, walkie-talkies and first-aid kits in order to lend a hand to people in emergency situations.

Although Mr. Chemali is a big supporter of Sun Youth’s crime prevention efforts, his support also extends to other departments. In 2013 Mr. Chemali facilitated the donation of a new 100% electric car through the Nissan Canada Foundation.  Since then thousands of individuals and families have been helped through our home deliveries program and our Emergency Relief Program, and without the donation of the Nissan Leaf made possible by the Nissan Canada Foundation, our ability to carry out and continue these initiatives would have been made incredibly difficult, if possible at all.

Mr. Chemali’s proven track record of helping to improving the quality of life for the people in the community is long and consistent and Sun Youth would like to extend its most sincere and warm thank you to Mr. Chemali for his continued support.

For nearly 20 years Mr. Nazih Chemali has generously contributed to Sun Youth by providing transportation to the organizations through different initiatives. This year’s contribution of a vehicle by Toyota Gabriel to Sun Youth’s Bike Patrol was vital to the ability to function. Bike patrol is a joint venture with SPVM (Montreal Police) and is present in 9 neighborhoods with 28 patrollers working full time for 10 weeks over the course of the summer.
