A new space to cook, learn, share and strengthen food autonomy
Sun Youth is proud to welcome the 15th METRO Community Kitchen, officially inaugurated on September 9 at our new Community and Sports Centre.
Created in collaboration with METRO and Banques alimentaires du Québec, this new facility is much more than a kitchen. It opens the door to new ways of supporting individuals and families in our community, while creating a space where community organizations, partners and community members can come together around food.

A space serving our community
The Community Kitchen will first and foremost support the people and families we serve every day. It will be used as part of our food programs, day camps, sports activities and community initiatives.
This summer, our young campers already had the opportunity to discover the kitchen and take part in different activities. For them, cooking becomes an opportunity to learn, develop independence and, above all, share meaningful moments together.
The kitchen will also allow Sun Youth to offer cooking workshops, collective kitchens and training activities, while developing new initiatives that promote food autonomy and inclusion.

Cooking together, building connections
One of the greatest strengths of this new facility is its potential for collaboration. The Community Kitchen will be available to community organizations in the area and across Greater Montreal that wish to share resources and expertise.
Whether it is sharing culinary knowledge, developing projects for different communities or simply gathering around a meal, each activity can help create connections and strengthen the community.
“This Community Kitchen represents much more than a new food preparation space. It will become a true community hub where our clients, partners and community organizations can cook, learn from one another, share knowledge and develop meaningful projects. This investment will strengthen our ability to support the individuals and families we serve every day for years to come,” says Marina Boulos-Winton, Executive Director of Sun Youth.

An inauguration centred on sharing
To celebrate its official opening, the Community Kitchen welcomed community partners, dignitaries and members of the media for a collaborative cooking activity led by Chef Oli.
The gathering offered a glimpse of all that this new space will make possible: cooking together, learning from one another and, above all, creating opportunities to connect.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to METRO and Banques alimentaires du Québec for their trust and collaboration in bringing this project to life.
At Sun Youth, we believe that food can be much more than a basic necessity. It can be a starting point to learn, build independence, create connections and strengthen our community.
With this new Community Kitchen, we now have a space to bring that vision to life—one meal and one meaningful connection at a time.
