Since the 1970’s, we have been caring for people affected by a disaster or an emergency situation by providing them with basic and personalized assistance for the time they need to regain a normal lifestyle.
How we help
People affected by a disaster (fires, floods and other) can receive different types of assistance:
- Essential goods such as food, new clothes, formula, diapers and others,
- Free access to medication and glasses,
- Transportation assistance such as public tickets transit and passenger transport,
- Social support and other types of services (translation, telephone service, financial aid).

Major disasters
Since the mid-1990s, we have responded to major disasters affecting the population here and abroad. This was the case during the floods which occurred in the Saguenay region in 1996 and in Manitoba in 1997, during the Ice Storm of 1998, during the conflict in Lebanon and the earthquake that struck Haiti in 2010 by helping Canadian nationals who were returning home.
In 1999, we took part in the creation of what has become the ROHCMUM (Regroupement des organismes humanitaires et communautaires pour les mesures d’urgence à Montréal), an organization aimed at improving community organizations’ state of readiness should emergency measures be declared in Montreal.
Minor disasters
We have been caring for people affected by fires, floods, unsanitary conditions and other emergency situations within the City of Montreal from the 1970s and onward. Since 2008, we have a service agreement with the City of Montreal, in collaboration with the Red-Cross and the Office municipal d’habitation de Montréal.
