Motherhood

Motherhood is first experienced by mother and child alike when the baby is still in the womb.

Motherhood is first experienced by mother and child alike when the baby is still in the womb. The nurture, love and care then continue for a lifetime. At Sun Youth, we are there every step of the way, accompanying mothers and children on this lifelong journey.

By providing healthy food to pregnant women and new mothers or by redistributing baby accessories to parents in need, we alleviate painstaking worries that mothers often feel regarding the growth of their offspring. By offering sports and recreation activities to children, we proffer mothers with a safe environment where their children can learn and be active while they tend to their busy motherly schedules. Sports Moms are also given opportunity to further get involved in their children’s lives, cheering them on, coaching them, organizingpractices, keeping scores, writing messages, participating in fundraisers, or simply taking beautiful pictures of our athletes through their loving eyes.

More recently, Sun Youth added a new activity mothers can engage in that will bolster their baby’s health in a very positive way. Our collective kitchen allows new moms theopportunity to get together and prepare delicious homemade baby purees with fresh produce. While the fruits and vegetables used for the purees are presently purchased at the store, our own garden will supply the bounty this summer, providing another fun way for mothers to interact with their kids teaching them lifelong tools.

The idea of starting a collective kitchen had been simmering in the back of our mind for a long time. Started last year, there are now four groups participating. For many participants, this fun culinary activity is a chance to gain useful knowledge, develop new skills and enhance their autonomy. The collective kitchen is intended for anyone who cares about practicing healthy eating habits. It also gives participants the opportunity to get involved individually and collectively in the community sharing values of solidarity, equity, mutual support and social justice while developing food autonomy. Last month’s collective kitchen session became intergenerational, as a participant in our senior’s group brought her daughter and granddaughter along for the puree one.If you want to join a group or start your own, let us know!
