On Saturday, May 24th, at the Michel-Normandin arena, 100 outstanding young people were rewarded for their acts of bravery, their resilience, and their kindness at the Sun Youth 41st Annual Bike Distribution now called Heroes on Bikes.
A new bike, helmet, T-shirt, lock, and certificate of merit awaited each of them.
Shining a light on Heroes
“We want to highlight the good deeds of today’s youth. It’s very important for us to pay tribute to them,” explains Ann St Arnaud, Director of Communications for Sun Youth. “We also want to say to young people: continue to do good around you when you become adults. Our society needs it so much!”
Resilience, bravery, and kindness guided the actions of these young people. Here are some of the children who were rewarded on Saturday.

Theodore, 11 years old. 70 medical appointments and a brain biopsy never stopped this boy. Despite these challenges, he never stopped thinking of others. One by one, from his hospital bed, he made bracelets for each of his classmates and had the pleasure of handing them over to them as soon as he was able to return to class.

Michel, 13 years old. Bullied on the first day of high school, Michel turned his distress into strength through sports. With the support of his teachers, he discovered talent for cross-country running. He even went on to win medals and, in the process, became a model of resilience and pride for all the young people at his school.

Isabella, 13, launched Operation Hot Meals three years ago. With the help of family, friends, and neighbors, she served 400 meals to the homeless during the last holiday seasons, demonstrating great compassion and leadership.

Henri, 13 years old. When his little sister went missing, Henri took an active part in the search alongside police and volunteers. He never gave up hope, never stopped, until his little sister was found.
Thank you to our partners
After a great day at the Heroes on Bikes event, we are looking forward to seeing our heroes spend a two-wheeled season in the sun. Participants also had the opportunity to sign up for the Garage 529 bike theft prevention platform.
Thank you to all who made this day a great one, the SPVM team Commandant Brunet and Commandant McDermott, our selection committee volunteer Catherine Plante from Vélo-Québec, Jeffrey Billeter and the Santé vélo team, all our participants, and the volunteers from Actoran, CIM Conseil, Groupe Petra and Société Générale.
This initiative would not be possible without the support of our very generous donor, a former Sun Youth kid who wishes to remain anonymous.
