Since 2003, the Sun Youth Summer Camp offers a ”Counselors in Training” (CIT) program that offers employment opportunities to young people aged from 15 to 17 years old. For two weeks, each selected participant acts as a camp counselor under the supervision of an experienced counselor. In addition, CIT’s also receive continuous training to develop their skills and abilities for the job market and to help them stay in school.
The purpose of this program is to provide a first work experience for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds and with low levels of education. Sun Youth tries to demonstrate the importance of education by staying in school. In doing so, we offer these young people workshops that help develop both their personal and professional skills, therefore maximizing their future job opportunities. They are taught how to manage their time effectively, set realistic goals, manage their aggressiveness, write a résumé and how to behave in an interview. They also act as facilitators during some activities with the children thus developing their communication skills. They are also taught first aid.
