Honoured for helping save a life!

On August 24, 2019, Sun Youth rewarded 11 year-old Shana-Maude Curadeau and 10 year-old Elylla Jennings for helping save a young boy from drowning on August 4th at the pool of Michel-Ménard Park in Lachine. The two young girls were honoured by Sun Youth as part of the organization’s Good Samaritan program. The ceremony took place at Sun Youth’s Service Center on Parc Avenue.

On August 4, 2019, Shana-Maude and Elylla were playing a game in the deep end of the pool at Michel-Ménard Park when the sister of the boy took Shana-Maude aside and asked her to get her brother. Thinking at first it was a joke, the two girls still jumped in the water and got the unconscious boy out of the pool. The team of lifeguards then took over and reanimated the boy who is fortunately unscathed.

In recognition of their act of bravery, Sun Youth presented each girl with a bicycle, a backpack, gift certificates and a merit certificate.

Rewarding citizens for their courage and solidarity fosters altruism and develops mutual care. The Good Samaritan Program was created in 2001 by Sun Youth Organization.
