Over Spring break Sun Youth held its basketball camp once again and it was huge success.

Athletic improvement is a physical and mental process full of opportunities for young people to grow and learn, and this is an approach adopted by Sun Youth. Since its creation the organization has been committed to the promotion of healthy lifestyles and school retention in order to promote the physical, social and intellectual development of young people.

Over Spring break Sun Youth held its basketball camp once again and it was huge success. Boys and girls aged 8-14, were able to work on refining their skills at the fundamental levels with drills tailored to passing, shooting, dribbling, and drills designed to increase endurance.  The camp was focused at understanding basketball at a conceptual level, which is good for kids who are new to the sport as well as competitive athletes who are trying to refine their game.

The camp was run by Rodney Skerritt, Sun Youth’s basketball coordinator who expressed that the camp was focused on the ”fundament building blocks of basketball, which creates the path to becoming a better player and more importantly a better person”. He also noted that many of the kids who took part in the camp showed a marked improvement from start to finish of camp. ”I am really proud of the effort and the work the kids put in”, said Rodney Skerritt. The camp also provided each child with a hot lunch throughout the week of camp, as Sun Youth has a philosophy of providing meals to kids who participate in their camps so they have enough energy to meet physical demands that vigorous exercise requires.

Sun Youth Hornets basketball program now will be focusing exclusively on the quickly approaching playoffs where they are poised to do well. Following the playoffs will be the summer season where kids will be given the chance to showcase their talents to NCAA Division 1 coaches in tournaments across the United States. The tryouts for our summer basketball season will be held on April 3rd at Vanier College Sports Complex, located at 821 Ste-Croix Avenue, in Ville Saint-Laurent. The tryouts are for boys of three age categories and are free of charge: U11 (2004): 12PM; U13 (2002-2003): 1:30PM; U15 (2000-2001): 3PM. For more information, e-mail us.
