Starbucks volunteers bring new aromas to Sun Youth building
Some sixty Starbucks Coffee volunteers have given Sun Youth a fresh spring breeze on Sunday April 26th. Giving generously a total of 240 hours of their time, these earnest volunteers worked vigorously cleaning from top to bottom and inside our 3-storey St. Urbain street building.
Stairwells and floors are now shining bright, the walls are clean and the organization’s headquarters smell good. This was all done in a friendly and very enthusiastic atmosphere.
Sun Youth is grateful to the Starbucks Coffee volunteers for their contribution which has been made possible thanks to the the Société de développement social de Ville-Marie (SDSVM). The SDSVM acts as a middleman between the business world and the community organizations by getting Montreal’s companies involved in actions that will help respond to social needs. The SDSVM calls itself a “broker of social values”, and is the first of its kind in North America.
Starbucks is a perfect match for Sun Youth, coffee and volunteering go hand in hand as they make connections and keep people connected. For Starbucks, the whole operation took root into its “Global month of Service” which takes place in April and where the company encourages its employees to participate in community service projects close to where they live and work.
We would like to thank SDSVM Director of Social Responsibility Programs, Christiane Piché, Starbucks District Manager, Karen Chong Siat Moy and Starbucks Regional Director, Nash Abdrabo for making this possible.
